Religious Heritage

The chapels of Icod de los Vinos are small temples filled with history and tradition. Built between the 17th and 18th centuries, they reflect both popular devotion and traditional Canarian architecture — from the Hermitage of San Antonio de Padua to those dedicated to Our Lady of Sorrows (Nuestra Señora de las Angustias) and El Calvario.

Each one preserves its own legends, works of art, and devotional practices, all of which form an essential part of the cultural and spiritual identity of the municipality.

Located in Icod de los Vinos, this former estate has been transformed into a museum offering an educational experience about banana cultivation, one of the most emblematic products of the Canary Islands. Through a self-guided tour, visitors can explore exhibitions featuring agricultural machinery, historical photographs, and informative panels.

The visit includes a small banana plantation where different varieties can be observed and distinguished by their characteristic aroma and flavor. At the end of the tour, visitors can sample local products made with bananas —such as mojos, sweets, and liqueurs— available in the museum’s shop.

The Butterfly Park of Icod de los Vinos was inaugurated in 1987, becoming the first facility of its kind in Spain. It is a glass-enclosed space that recreates a tropical garden where butterflies fly freely, just as they would in their natural habitat. This makes for a fascinating combination, allowing visitors to discover many different species of butterflies as well as a wide variety of exotic plants.

Step into a unique tropical garden in the Canary Islands, where more than 800 exotic butterflies from around the world fly freely. Inside the Butterfly Park, you can observe over 150 different species throughout the year. Since butterflies have a short lifespan —only about 2 to 3 weeks—, there are always new and surprising specimens to admire.

Beyond their beauty, the Butterfly Park offers the chance to witness all the stages of a butterfly’s life cycle firsthand —from eggs and caterpillars to chrysalises and daily emergences. Watching a butterfly emerge from its chrysalis and take its first flight after metamorphosis is an unforgettable experience.

Thanks to a carefully controlled environment that replicates their natural habitat —with temperatures between 24 and 29 °C and humidity around 80%—, butterflies from different continents coexist in perfect harmony, without conflicts between species.

An educational, visual, and thrilling experience, ideal for all ages.
