Casa de los Cáceres: Neoclassical Elegance in the Heart of Icod

Facing the charming Plaza de la Constitución—popularly known as Plaza de la Pila—in the very heart of Icod de los Vinos’ historic center, stands the Casa de los Cáceres, one of the finest examples of noble architecture in the municipality. Built in the 19th century, this impressive mansion represents the late Neoclassical style, notable for its unusual and abundant use of wood in many of its structural elements.

Its balanced and elegant façade leads to an interior organized around a central courtyard, adorned with two massive tea-wood columns, a vestibule painted with floral motifs, and large glass windows that allow natural light to flood in. Two wooden staircases rise symmetrically to the upper floors, while the rear courtyard—once housing stables—was accessible from Calle San Sebastián.

According to local tradition, the house is said to have as many doors and windows as there are days in the year, a poetic nod to its architectural richness. Today, this protected heritage building (Bien de Interés Cultural) forms part of Icod’s living legacy, housing municipal and exhibition spaces open to the public.

At the Casa de los Cáceres, visitors can experience the cultural and artistic life of Icod de los Vinos—a town where history is not only preserved but lived. Its traditions, art, and collective memory form an emotional landscape that enriches every visit.
